Pushing Personal Limits.

It's not every day that you stumble upon the opportunity to ascend a famous landmark, the highest in the city and challenged to tip your toes over the edge of the building. Furthermore, it's not every day that you think you would actually go ahead and do it!

CN Tower’s Edgewalk is the most thrilling attraction in its history and holds the Guinness World Record for the “Highest External Walk on a Building”, and it's the first of its kind in North America. It is the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower’s main pod. Visitors walk in groups of six, while attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness system. Trained EdgeWalk guides encourage participants to push their personal limits, allowing them to lean back over Toronto with nothing but air and breathtaking views of Lake Ontario beneath them.

Sounds wild and breathtaking right? Well it is for some. For others it conjures fear of heights, terror of falling and risks simply not worth taking for the experience of a wonderful view.

I'm told, you can go online now and within a few quick searches find the exact view that you would get if you did go to the top and take part, even videos! So that's a reason why some don't need to do it and they're right, this very blog post has both pictures and video of my experience which you'll find at the end.

Personally, my experience was frought with imaginable danger, risks and fear of falling. All I could think about really was this idea, that I would be the first casualty of this tragic accident waiting to unfold. Luckily for me and in the experience of others, The Secret and it's Law of Attraction (although principally true) left out some key details that actually make it work. Contrary to popular belief, what you think about doesn't come to pass. if it did, there would a whole lot more rollercoasters coming off the tracks, Edgewalk safety wires snapping and planes falling out the sky. Reality just doesn't work that way, thankfully. I can no more think of an Edgewalk safety wire snapping and it happening, than I think of food and feel less hungry. It's not how it works. When I teach Power of the Mind, I'm not teaching the practice of using direct telekinesis to destroy objects that you need and want to protect you.

It was and always has been important to me to push personal limits. To find out what I'm "really made of" and explore those mental and physical limits because understandably, that's all they are in the first place - limits and I was interested in finding out if they were definite and absolute, or could they be pushed further or taken away completely. Understandably, there are physical limits; you can't jump off a building in a tank top and sandals and expect to fly like an eagle but given wings there is still something that might stop you from trying and it's that area I'm interested in exploring and understanding more as I believe, pushing those limits even a little further, the space that it creates can be filled with richer experiences and more of yourself as you expand more of your being into it.

Not everyone has to climb Everest or tip their toes over the edge of the CN Tower, or jump out of a plane, but you do need to start somewhere.

When you face one of your fears every day it is a guaranteed way to make you feel bold. Start small with fears such as speaking up in class, or saying hello to someone you like or fancy, and then build on your successes by tackling bigger and bigger fears until you feel you can conquer anything.

I'm sure you have lots of examples from your own life already when there was something or other that you didn't want to do and it was fear that was holding you back. Fear of what? Mostly things you were making up in your head at what you thought would happen if you went through with it. Most of these times you were probably told or shared with others that 'it wasn't that bad'. There are lots of fear related coinisms, like False Evidence Appearing Real that flood the self-help world and they all point towards this very real neurological process that takes place in our brain. Our mind's and body can't actually tell the difference between what is real and not real, so imagination will always win over will power. If you imagine horrible, scary thoughts, your body will respond by sweating, your heart rate will increase, your body will prepare for fight or flight responses and this is all before an actual event has even happened. That's why some people can freak out at the mere MENTION of the word snakes or some other animal they might have a fear or phobia of. They have already began to run the "fear strategy" in their minds which will hold them back from living a more fuller, richer, vibrant and limitless experience of life.

So do something scary every day, start small if you need to and when you catch yourself running the "fear strategies" that you've been oh so very good at running so far, switch them up to positive versions and outcomes. Use your imagination for your own power for you, so that it works not against you, but for you. This is your power. You get to choose how to control it.
